Evans NPG+ used in the Historic restoration of a recovered Lockheed P38 Lightning

THE STORY OF THE LOST SQUADRON

July 15, 1942

Lost in bad weather, a flight of six P-38s and two B-17s are forced to land on the Greenland Ice Cap. The 25 crewmen are rescued and the warplanes are abandoned.

50 years and 268 feet of ice and snow later, one of the P-38's is recovered during the summer of 1992.

Restoration to the "Glacier Girl" started October 1992 and will continue until she is ready to fly. Once Flying, "Glacier Girl" will be on display at air shows around the country and will remain as the center attraction at The Lost Squadron Museum.

The latest news has the Glacier Girl ready to make it's historic return to flight on Saturday, October 26, 2002 at 2PM EST. Check the Lost Squadron web site for all the latest news.
