NAC + EvansEVANS COOLING SYSTEMS, INC. and the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments COMmand’s (TACOM) National Automotive Center (NAC) have recently entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA).

Objective

The objective of this CRADA is to jointly research and demonstrate new cooling system products, processes, and components which will:

• Improve power
• Increase vehicle fuel economy
• Reduce exhaust emissions, and
• Reduce ground/water pollution.

The information gathered will help to develop systematic heat management design processes for the analysis and improvement of current and future cooling systems used in both military and commercial ground vehicles.

Why EVANS COOLING SYSTEMS, INC. and the NAC?

EVANS COOLING SYSTEMS, INC. and the NAC are well suited to complement one another’s strengths in collaboration on the testing of all aspects of a cooling system. EVANS has independently developed advanced cooling products for a myriad of applications including passenger vehicles, class-eight trucks, road performance and circuit racing cars, power boat racing, and off road construction equipment. While the NAC possesses vehicle-testing facilities, courses, and expertise in traditional military cooling system design construction, and application.

How will the partnership work?

The U.S. Army will contribute test facilities, access to vehicles and propulsion systems, and military experimental components. They will also grant EVANS access to Army test courses, program management, and test planning. EVANS will provide engineering expertise, data research, commercial experimental components, special test equipment, report generation and technical program guidance.

Benefits

Some of the benefits the partnership hopes to realize are:

• The acceleration of the commercialization of EVANS’ advanced cooling system products and technology into the U.S. heavy truck and automobile markets.
• Improvements in fuel economy, emissions, aerodynamics, maintenance, durability, and safety.
• A reduction in ground pollution through the application of EVANS’ environmentally safe coolants, nonaqueous propylene glycol (NPG) and blended fluids (NPG+).
• New, smaller, lighter, more efficient, low cost commercially based cooling systems, components and heat management processes for military and U.S. truck and automotive markets use.
• A reduction in operation and support (O&S) costs for the Army.
