LightSmith Racing - Motorcycle Installation Procedure
ECS Note: We have found that installation of NPG into motorcycles is literally a "Drain & Fill" procedure. Factory flow rates have sufficient volume to run NPG - There are no required modifications to your existing setup and no additional parts are needed to obtain the benefits of an Evans NPG cooled engine.
Below
is the exact procedure used by the LightSmith Racing team to convert their team
bikes to NPG. It is in their own words and we've made no changes to the dialog
below. Thank You to LightSmith Racing from us at ECS. For our complete instructions,
please see our Evans
NPG Motorcycle Installation guide, read through our FAQ
page, Technical
Info or our complete Technical
Reference and Instruction Manual page.

our racebikes over to NPG coolant was as straight forward and easy as the
instructions implied." - John Light |

1.
Drain old coolant as completely as possible. Don't forget to drain the expansion tank. |
2.
Fill system with an "intermediate" type coolant. Use something like "Sierra" brand; it will say Propylene Glycol on it, but it is a watered down version intended to be mixed with water. |
3.
Run the bike enough to circulate the coolant. Revving the engine will turn the coolant pump faster, aiding this step. |
4.
Drain this liquid as fully as possible. |
5.
Fill the system with Evans brand NPG. The higher viscosity will make this take a little longer than if it were water. Be patient. We found that squeezing a radiator hose would work the coolant in a little faster as it helped push air out of the system. If you can't be patient, warm the coolant before filling, but it really doesn't take that long. Don't forget to fill the expansion tank. |
6.
Run the bike to circulate the coolant. Check the fluid level in the radiator. |
7.
Dispose the Ethylene Glycol (green stuff) in the appropriate manor. Remember that it is on the EPA's list of hazardous materials. |
8.
Stop referring to "water pumps" and "water hoses" because you've moved on from the old days. |
