Buick GN & T Type System Suggestions

For stock and Hi Performance applications the factory water pump has sufficient volume if the following guidelines are followed.

1986-87 with 1 3/4" diameter thermostat stock HP with no modifications.
     
  1. Remove thermostat.
  2. Plug the thermostat bypass hose.
  3. Install restrictor in heater hose.
  4. Install 7 psi cap on radiator.
  5. Install air bleed in pump housing. (covered in the Evans instruction manual)
  6. In hot climates or heavy A/C usage install Evans 3.75"pump pulley. (modifications required with stock crank fan and intercooler.)

1986-87 with 1 3/4" diameter thermostat with Hi Performance modifications.
     
  1. Remove thermostat.
  2. Plug the thermostat bypass hose.
  3. Install restrictor in heater hose.
  4. Install 7 psi cap on radiator.
  5. Requires Evans 3.75"pump pulley.
  6. Install air bleed in pump housing. (covered in the Evans instruction manual)
  7. Install upgraded radiator Minimum radiator core suggestions; 300HP or less with out A/C 4 rows 1/2" tube copper/brass, 300 HP to 400 HP with A/C 2 rows 1" tube aluminum, 400 HP plus minimum of 2 rows 1.25" tube aluminum.
  8. Intercoolers restrict the air to the radiator if possible install separate oil and transmission cooler.

1985 and older with 2 1/8" diameter thermostat stock HP with no modifications.
     
  1. Install Evans High Flow Thermostat.
  2. Plug the thermostat bypass hose.
  3. Install restrictor in heater hose.
  4. Install 7 psi cap on radiator.
  5. Install air bleed in pump housing. (covered in the Evans instruction manual)
  6. In hot climates or heavy A/C usage install Evans 3.75"pump pulley. (modifications required with stock crank fan and intercooler.)
